I am changing the direction of the blog for the next few months. I am leaving for Australia at the beginning of March so I want to share my experiences. I will be teaching math over there for 8 weeks and I couldn’t be more stoked. I will be teaching in Perth which is very close to the beach and that means it is very awesome.
Summer 2K11. »
Ok. As it turns out I haven’t posted anything since April. That being said, I thought I’d hop back in here and say hello and what not. So hey.
Like many other average American people the beginning of this summer was filled with plans of going to the gym, reading many books, getting a jump start on the rest of my life and getting the tan of the century by the pool. Those plans quickly turned into me eating pizza all day long while watching countless hours of Spongebob. I did take a few breaks of that active lifestyle to do a few things.
Let’s start with Memorial Day. My family and I took a trip to a wildlife sanctuary that my mom’s uncle manages near Frankfort, KY. We take this trip every year and it is always a blast with family and fun. There is little museum center there that has all sorts of cool animal things. The center allows schools and other groups to come and learn about wildlife and nature. Pretty cool.

On the way home, we took another route and came across a huge abandoned distillery. Old Taylor Distillery apparently used to produce a lot of bourbon back in the day and now the facility sits empty and looks like the setting for every scary movie ever made ever. There are gates everywhere and there are probably ghosts everywhere too so this is the only picture I took.

The other major part about this summer and every summer for that matter is that it is Catholic Church festival season. I take my bag of quarters and go gamble them away as the dangerously rusty rides swing in full force. I never play those carnival games for a few reasons. The people working them kind of always scare me and I have to buy like 28 game tickets to get the palm sized stuffed dinosaur.

This past month has also been sprinkled with the excitement of my summer course in astronomy. The class is great. I won’t go into details…unless you want me to. I would love to take about the retrograde motion of Mars and the flow of energy out of the Sun but I have to get back to watching Spongebob.

My Three Seconds of Price is Right Fame. »
I took a picture of my TV of when the camera at the Price is Right panned over me for about three seconds. Here it is. Enjoy.

LA: Day 5 »
My friend and I rode a bus for an hour to meet up with a guy that works at a place called Space Exploration Technologies. We went on a tour of the facility and it was absolutely amazing. If you have never heard of SpaceX, check out there site here because I can’t begin to explain the awesome things that they have done. Part of Iron Man 2 was filmed there as well so we got to see where certain scenes were shot and it was incredible. Then we had lunch and got dropped off at the airport to end the awesome filled Spring Break 2K11. I can not wait to go back to LA.
LA: Day 4 »
Here is what happened today:
-Woke up after sleeping for nearly 12 hours (the Price is Right is exhausting)
-Ate Breakfast
-Went back to the room and got ready for the day
-Realized we might be able to make the 10:00 time for standby tickets to Conan
-Caught a bus to try and make the 10:00 time for standby tickets to Conan
-Got to Warner Bros. Studios at 10:00
-Didn’t find the right gate until 10:30
-We were told to come back at 12:15 and wait for more standby tickets
-We stayed until 12:15 and got standby tickets number 11 and 12
-We were told to be back at 2:00 to see if we could get in
-Bought food at a food truck
-Came back at 1:30
-Waited until 2:00
-Then the Conan dude came over and said they are taking tickets 1 through 6
-Caught a bus home
-Thought we were on the wrong bus
-Got off the bus
-Waited for another bus
-Got on another bus
-Turns out we were on the right bus before and this bus was the same one we got off like 30 minutes ago
-Rode the bus for 20 minutes
-Got back to our room
LA: Day 2-3 »
Ok so apparently the internets in the hotel room are not as fast as they should be. That being the case, pictures will be uploaded when I get home and until then I will just have to tell you how cool things have been. We are about a block away from Hollywood Boulevard, so we walked around and saw the walk of fame and all of those sweet stars. They were setting up for the premiere of “Red Riding Hood” at the Chinese theater so we got to see the red carpet, unfortunately we missed all of the celebrities on the red carpet. We hung out with a friend of ours (what up Jake) and he showed us around a bit and that was a blast. Then the next morning we woke up at 6:00 and headed over to CBS studios and attended a taping of the Price is Right. I wanted to be on that show so, so, so, so, so, so freaking bad but alas, I was not chosen as a contestant. However, the experience was truly unforgettable. After this we headed over to the Johnny Cupcakes store on Melrose Avenue and I bought a sweet shirt. That was also an amazing experience.
Tomorrow is our last day here so we will figure out what we are going to do when we wake up. Until then, peace out.
LA: Day 1 »
SO we just got into our hotel. I don’t really know where exactly we are, apparently LA is a HUGE city. So basically my friend and I are going to walk around and see what’s up, find some cool things, meet some cool people and become famous because that is what you do in LA.
We stopped by Hermosa Beach to visit a friend of a friend and we tossed some frisbee on the beach and then we were treated to a comedy show at the “world famous” Comedy and Magic club where we got to see Jay Leno perform. That was pretty cool. Let’s see what else this trip holds for us.
