Holy sheep, Northern Ireland was fun.

So I am home. I got home on the 9th and let me tell you something, Northern Ireland was a blast. The program I was a part of was called FUSED and it was a program targeted at fusing together youth from different churches throughout Newcastle. The group I helped run had about 30 kids in it and we played games, laughed, had a great time and learned some about what it means to have a relationship with Christ all the while seeing tons of sheep that lined the country roads. Sheep are cool.

The town of Newcastle is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. There are mountains and a beach right in the same field of view and you better believe me and the rest of the team hiked the highest point in Northern Ireland…Slieve Donard. Check it. My legs still hurt.

It was incredible to me how different the Irish culture is from ours. A bunch of little things add up to the culture being very different. I totally enjoyed learning new things, new accents and meeting tons of new and awesome people. I tried so hard to pick up the Irish accent but I just couldn’t do it. It’s so cool. Hey everyone. This will be my last post for about 3 weeks. Tomorrow I head to Lexington to meet up with a group at Southland Christian Church to go to Northern Ireland. We leave early Thursday morning and I will not be able to have any service (phone or wifi) so I won’t be able to use any technology really. Which is kind of a good thing, I will be taking a little technological fast. When I get back I will have tons of pictures so stayed tuned. Oh…and shirts are still $5…so…you know, buy them.

The Kuumba event was awesome. The feature spoken word artist was Jay Martinez and he totally fired up the crowd. I got to meet a few other vendors at the event and sold some shirts. The event included several vendors and about 8 poets. The Frank Duveneck Arts and Cultural Center is such an awesome place in Covington, KY. The center has various workshops throughout the week to promote art with the youth in the surrounding community. That’s awesome. Here are a few pictures from the event.

My friend took my picture the other day. Then he put it in his new iPhone app called “FatBooth” and this is what happened. It is hilarious. FatBooth takes anyones picture and makes them…well…fatter. I guess I can use this as an encouragement to make sure this never happens.

Kuumba

I have been invited to attend an event in Covington on Friday known as Kuumba. It is an event that celebrates artists, musicians and dancers within the community. The event is being held at the Frank Duveneck Center of Culture & Arts and admission is $5 at the door. I will have a table set up with all of the “I Know Bob Durstock” shirts and all of the buttons that have been made. The shirts will be on sale for $5 each. About a month ago I told you all about Jon and Earline, you can find out about their travels here. I met this couple on a train ride home from Washington, DC. They are terrific. On the train ride, I gave them my card since I didn’t have any shirts with me and they sent me a few cool photos with my card traveling with them where ever they went. Thanks Jon and Earline.

So on my travels this week, we ran across Foamhenge. It is an exact replica of Stonehenge except it is made out of FOAM. We stopped and looked around and wanted to stay longer but it started to rain…so we had to leave. However, it was hilarious.
